View this email in your browser First Friday Youth Open Mic Featuring Lissa Piercy Friday, April 7 from 7 - 10pm First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain, 633 Centre St. Lissa Piercy is a performance poet and entrepreneur who lives mostly out of her blue suitcase, but is based in Washington, DC. She began writing poems to process her own grief, and continued after discovering the power of poetry, community, and shared experience through open mics. Lissa has performed at conferences around the world, including the Opportunity Collaboration in Ixtapa, Mexico and the Skoll World Forum in Oxford, England. She is a MassLEAP trained teaching artist, a TEDx speaker, and a former National Poetry Slam team member. As a founding member of arts collective Flatline Poetry, Lissa tours Colleges and Universities teaching Residence Life staff how to create safer spaces on their campuses. As a woman entrepreneur, Lissa is co founder of Strength of Doves and Speakers Up, two organizations that support social justice focused artists. She has a certificate in Social Entrepreneurship from Watson University and regularly attends and performs at conferences and events related to using business for change. Lissa is driven by a belief that social justice oriented artists should be able to earn a living wage through their work. When she is not on stage or in a classroom, she can be found making colorful spreadsheets or eating popcorn in an airport terminal. Doors open and dinner is served at 7. Open mic begins around 7:30.
