Warning

I'd love for Shanna Compton to post this and/or actively warn other Texans; but this should count as a warning for all, even in the "safe" state of Massachusetts. This email comes from a subscriber to the Sacred Cow Productions website's mailing list. SCP head Kevin Booth (friend of Bill Hicks and producer of his best albums before and after his death; check his site out for Hicks clips and merch) clipped the original email and sent it out earlier today.

No joking around.. heres a heads up for you......
Yesterday a friend voted early at a polling locationin Austin. She voted straight Democratic. When she didthe final check, lo and behold every vote was for theDemocratic candidates except that it showed that shehad voted for Bush/Cheney for president/vice pres. She immediately got a poll official. On her vote, itwas corrected. She called the Travis County Democratic headquarters. They took all her information. They told her that shewasn't the first to report a similar incident and thatthey are looking into it.So, check before you leave the polling booth, and ifanything is wrong, get it corrected immediately.Report any irregularities to your local Democraticheadquarters. make sure you pass this along to your
friends.......hopefully this is all over the airwaves
in Texas........

Grr. Thanks for the head's up, Chad. I will forward and post.

You know, voting straight ticket may be less than safe elsewhere too. I've read other complaints that straight ticket votes fill in everything but the presidential race, or all local offices except judges, etc., so it seems like it sometimes doesn't cover all your bases.

Fingers crossed that everybody is as attentive as this woman.

For maximum exposure, you might also consider posting to atrios.blogspot.com. You can post anonymously if you like.

Hi Y'all--

Thanks for posting-forwarding on this matter. Especially first-time voters will need to be made aware, I think, since they likely will be most trusting of the system. There has been a big push here at the university to get younger voters registered and prepared to vote, particularly aimed at those new voters who want Bush out. And they might really have trouble with this ballot problem. I'll put a note and link on Texfiles, and will make sure students here about this.

Election Protection Hotline: 1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683)

And http://www.mypollingplace.com will not only tell you where to go to vote (based on your address), but what kind of machine you will be using, and advance notice of instructions, etc.
