Still Alive Post Blizzard '05
For a pedestrian, I felt quite empowered the couple of times I went out to get stuff, able to walk in the middle of the road most of the time. Beautiful out. I only wish Lynne was around to watch it with me. But she needs her car and didn't want to dig it out a day after.
Plus, we can have a hard time remembering where we parked under normal circumstances.
New tip for people in blizzards: Don't do any shopping before the blizzard. Do it during the blizzard. Shorter lines, less annoying people stocking up like it's Y2K. The stress factor is actually reduced, I tell you!
Most interesting sight seen while walking: kids waiting for vehicles to pass them at 10 mph so they can run and grab on to the back bumpers to go "skiing." I first saw four kids slide a bit on a bus. They were unable to hold on, so they grasped onto a minivan. No one asks the driver if they're willing to pull extra weight, of course. So the minivan driver came out and taught them a few dirty words at damn-near the top of his lungs. Given the youngster's low center of gravity, no adult would risk leaving their ride behind for a chase in two feet of snow. So the guy just yelled, got in his vehicle and left.
A few minutes later, one of the kids turns around and goes, "Look! A steam shovel!"
