Tom Daley's Workshop
I'm overdue to write another update on the workshop I'm currently taking now with Tom, but that will have to wait. Given the possibility that I'll be able to promote this blog on Sommerville TV tonight, I thought I'd give new poets the chance to take Tom Daley's upcoming workshop. His letter is reprinted below. To communicate with the man himself, write him at tom.daley2@verizon.net, 'kay?
Dear friends and current, prospective and former poetry-writing workshop participants:
You might be interested to learn that if you sign up with a friend or friends for my March/April poetry writing workshop at the Boston Center for Adult Education, you will each get 20% off the regular price of the workshop which is $162 ($146 for BCAE members). That means it will cost only $129.60 ($116.80 for BCAE members). Nice, huh?
There is a catch however. YOU AND YOUR FRIEND(S) MUST REGISTER BY MARCH 1 TO GET THIS DISCOUNT. So all of you slackers and procrastinators, get a-registering! Early registration will also mean that there will definitely be a workshop this spring at the BCAE -- a tradition we should try to keep alive. They have been canceling the workshop lately due to lack of registrations.
If you don't know anyone who is interested, but would like to take advantage of this discount, I will be gathering a list of names of people who want to register and can match you with other people.
To register for the Bring a Friend offer call Student Services at the Boston Center for Adult Education at 617-267-4430.
The participants in my workshops have been turning out some very exciting work and are exceptionally thoughtful critics. We've had a lot of joy working with traditional forms and other exercises. For example, I asked participants in one workshop to write a poem built on impressions of a carnival, state fair or circus--the poems they turned out equalled or trumped many of the examples I gave them from published poets. Hope you'll join us.
The workshop takes place Tuesday nights from 5:45-7:45 at the Boston Center for Adult Education (5 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston's Back Bay--near the Arlington T stop on the Green Line) for eight sessions starting March 8 and ending April 26.
If you can't make these dates, my colleague, Jennifer Badot, will be leading a poetry writing workshop at the BCAE Thursday nights from 5:45-7:45 pm in May and June. Her workshop starts on May 5 and lasts eight weeks. Check with the BCAE to see if the same discount applies to the May/June session.
For more information on the Boston Center for Adult Education, check out their web site at http://www.bcae.org.
I am also available for private tutorials and editing of poems and manuscripts. Write me at this address to inquire about fees if you are interested.
