What To Call It...

When a renowned poetry group schedules two readings on the same day--one with your venue, one with another elsewhere--dividing not just the performers but the potential audience, I call it a bad mistake made out of good intentions.

When that same group also has another event the following week at another venue that happens to run on, say, a Monday like yours does, well, I call that necessary. You can't appease everyone, and you probably shouldn't try if you're trying to promote a group and it's product.

But when a host for that different venue comes to your venue and makes a concerted effort to promote his Monday show and point out that not only will the renowned poetry group be at his venue, but there will be more of them, pretty much encouraging people to skip your venue, what would you call it?

"Rude" is a word that comes to mind. "cockblocking" is another. I'm hard pressed to find better ones at this point.
