From The Old Life
Didn't come across this until recently. Another memory from the apartment days that inspired my chapbook. Logical messages laced with just a touch of paranoid control freak, laced with palpable fear from the remaining roommates. Who, incidentally, were afraid to even give out the keys to their always-locked rooms to an ineffectual landlord.
The writer of the blackboard message about our keys, incidentally, already had them and used them frequently against us (though we didn't know that until the end) and likely just didn't want to turn them over to the landlord, who was too old and scared to confront the Lord of The Blackboard.
The blackboard, incidentally, was out on the sidewalk for the trash, hours after the last of us had moved out, it's power depleted. I took it with me just so I could break it on my knee later.
