Another Jesus Poem

If you're a regular purveyor of this blog, especially during the last 30/30 writing challenge in April, you've probably read a couple of the "Jesus Poems" I've written. This is another one of them. Come back here, and I may even have an appropriate tag and link to them.

Flu Shot Jesus

Flu shot Jesus
does not heal the sick,
at least not outright.

Flu Shot Jesus
instead offers a choice
between possible health
and insubordination.

Flu Shot Jesus
wants to feed 500 people
with nothing but raw eggs.

Flu Shot Jesus
won't threaten you,
but he would want you
to follow him down
to the nurse's room
without cause you a fuss.

Flu Shot Jesus
is prepared to fact those
with newly pricked arms
and newly christened colds
to chastise them for lack of faith.

Old scriptures (two years back)
have Flu Shot Jesus
saying, “Fear not.
From now on you will catch colds
instead of fish.”

This is the hardest lines
for disciples to parse in debate.
Instead they sneeze quietly,
sniffled solidarity.
