There was an amazing poetry feature at the SPEAK UP! spoken word venue, hosted by Tony Toledo. The feature consisted of no less than eleven young and vibrant voices hailing form Salem State. You could tell that this was a first for many of them, getting up on the stage. In so many ways, that is more exciting to me than seeing a polished superstar.
The featureThe poets were lead by Salem State professor Kevin Carey, a poet with a book out and a future Stone Soup feature, who read the poems of some of the shyer stars.
Just as we'll be seeing Carey in the future, I hope to be seeing some of the Salem students among Stone Soup's open mike as early as October.
