NaPoWriMo, Day Five, Poem Three

I have a hard time with writing prompts and sonnets. This was both.Yesterday, the NaPoWriMo gave a prompt to do a fourteener. I opted for a more traditional sonnet. I had a hard time when I started it
Friday. It has been over a decade, I think, since I seriously attempted a sonnet. I finally finished this poem a few hours ago but went to bed. I'm up now, though, so I'll post it now.

The Cat You Abandoned

When you left it by the roadside you had to think
that if they're trees then it'd know where to go
with pet and brats to feed you had to cast of weight or sink
(maybe the choice of which was closer than we know).

Where did he go, your former feline friend
who in the night was cast from house to countryside.
Maybe he thought If that's the way it goes, then that's the end
of being bored and fat , let's find my feral side.

and then he traveled farther than he had to go,
to Florida to find you back in ex-husband's domain
and then the cat would be so sad.  So far and still there's no
new freedom be found.  And it would be insane

for the cat to stay around.  He'd prefer the wind and wet
than to have a pet attempt to care for another pet.
