This is a FREE library event given by Shrewsbury Library. He will introduce the six key elements of building a story. Namely, a compelling narrative premise, dramatic tension, expositional pacing, hero empathy, a vicarious reading experience, and a narrative strategy. He will use examples from the world of literature and movies to help infuse these elements with meaning to the participants. Then he will follow up with an exercise that asks the participants to follow a simple four- to six-step process to create a simple story of their own, bearing in mind what they may have just learned about a compelling premise, tension, and pacing. Finally, we will do some “hands on” writing exercises.
