I am very thankful for the next
few days of cool weather. I generally detest the summer and have only
been able to tolerate it in recent years because of the central air at
my job.
The machines I work with have to be kept cool. Otherwise, I assume, they would leave us all to fry.
According to the current hive mind around New England, if you despise summer, it's very bad form to talk about it, or to say you look forward to any other time of the year. And when it's too hot for even the most summer loving, they resort to euphemisms.
Yesterday, while walking along the water in Southie, my girlfriend overheard someone appreciating how cool it was, saying it felt like "football weather."
As she pointed out, the word they were clearly trying to say was "Fall."
