From Picture to Page: Soft Parade

I've been listening to The Doors lately, so I figured that's I got the title from their album of the same name. However, I never heard the title track until last night. Just wanted to figure out what a soft parade is supposed to be. This is the most research I've done for one of these poems.

Soft Parade

Empty sidewalk
has you scramble.

Must find a crowd
to hide from self,

sidewalk watchers
for fired-off salute.

Wait. Breathe in
the nothing left,

onlookers huddling
away from windows.

Heart's drum stops,
presents folded arms.

Own audience, whisper,
Still here. Still here.

All that's needed. Go home.
march in place, to end.
