Stone Soup Croutons, 1-3-24: Hamlet's Resolutions

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions selected from Stone Soup Poetry's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here.

I also have a book collecting the best of my first year of poems. Click here to purchase it.

Stone Soup returned this past Wednesday! It was exciting to be back. Now I'm getting used to having a deadline again. The poem turned into a New Year's piece I had no time and energy to write on New Year's Eve.

The new year promises so much. Not much of it good. We'll be here to mark the time as it grinds us down. Thanks for reading.

Hamlet's Resolutions

Get mother to try
internet dating.

Teach her horse
riding, get her out

of the castle. Buy
cat to keep from

talking to women.
Tell friends to not

hang with lunatics.
Learn about family

before you destroy
them. Dynasties

destroy themselves
all the time without

you having to raise
a glass, symbols

in rubble swept
by garbagemen

Stop creating new
murderers. Just leave.

Be alone. Let silence
follow soliloquies.

Special thanks to Ken Johnson, Bil Lewis, Jon Wesick, Jan Rowe, Rusty Rose, Mark Lipman, Bryan Franco, Patricia Carragon, Richard Spisak, Ari Whipple, Rich Boucher, James Van Looy, Merilee Johnson and special feature Robert Fleming.
