Good to Have the Attention

A Moment of Comics
Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman for decades, was gay. I had no idea until last week when he passed. Below is the opening page for "Finding Batman,' a story written by Conroy and drawn by J. Bone for the 2022 DC Pride issue. I wish I had read this when it came out. Rest in peace, Mr. Conroy.

New Article Up
For fun, I reviewed the last issue of Batman: Last Knight On Earth. It's up now on Medium.
Update: While I appreciate everyone clicking on this post, I'd feel great if a few of you would click on the actual article. It would help me out.

I Had Issues! My Old Review of Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox
Now that I'm almost done posting these reviews, I feel less proud of these "By-The-Numbers" reviews. They served their purpose, but they're like CinemaSins without ever hearing a "ding." Still, it was fun to write them at the time. That's how I was able to get this out before my time was done at the site. I just don't see myself ever doing another one. I'll still tackle the Identity Crisis mini-series someday, just not as a By-The-Numbers. Hope you liked them for what they were. Originally published October 3, 2013. Edited for clarity. Additional note: Number 4. had twice the number of links, but I choose not to link some of that work this time around.

I Had Issues! My Old Take on "Batfleck"
I had a rare moment of fun with this. At this point of my time with the comics website, I gave less and less of a flying f---. The site looked less and less like a source for clever comics discourse and more like a cosplay fetishist haven. My original title for this piece was "Obligatory Ben Affleck Post: A Tired And Weary Topic." The redundancy in the title speaks much of my feelings towards certain people's mindsets at the time.
I had zero investment in the DC Cinematic Universe, and it turns out that might have been down to good instincts. The original post got around a bit, even getting featured at a now-defunct Italian website. I have wanted to double down on my commitment to write intelligent essays, but I would love the time and venue to write goofy pieces like this too. One can dream. Originally September 13, 2013. Edited to protect the guilty.

Getting Goofy
I've done a lot of Comic Book Haiku in the past. I'm getting into it again. Because it's fun. Here's my first new one in a while, on Batman: White Knight, up now at Medium.

I Had Issues! My Seventh Comic Book Haiku
I did eventually read the full Death of the Family story. Just couldn't get over this initial cover. Originally published October 11, 2012.

I Had Issues! My Old Review of Batman #6
Crossovers. For the most part, I hate them. That's why I had to go crazy when the then-ongoing Court of Owls storyline was going to get "bigger." A little hyperbolic, to say the least, but it had been a while since I was this passionate about a mainstream title. Originally published March 1, 2012. Slightly edited for clarity.

I Had Issues! My Old Review of Three New 52 Comics
Hope you had a good new year. My archiving continues. I called this my "Five of Kinds" for my "52 Pick Up" series of reviews. I reviewed the fifth issue of three different comics. Seemed like fun at the time. Plus I thought it was a quicker way to write reviews (as the intro below shows).

I Had Issues! My Old Review of New 52's Batman #1-4
My "Aces High" pick in my continujing 52 Pick Up review from a few years back. Not much here, which made me consider not including it in my archived work, but I went back to Batman one or two more times at least, so I'll keep it here just to mark what I was thinking as time went on. I Had Issues! My Old Review of New 52's Batman #1
At least I liked a book that turned out to be the one definitive winner in the entire New 52 line (even if I did find much of the book problematic in the end). I really was banging these pieces out as fast as I could. The New 52, if ultimately disappointing, was at least exciting in the beginning. Originally published September 27, 2011. Edited for much needed clarity. I was writing way to fast back then.
