As with many people, I heard Lou Reed's "Tarbelly And Featherfoot" first before hearing Victoria Williams' origianl version. There's a reason why you type in the song's title into YouTube and Lou Reed's version comes up first. It's a Nine Inch Nails/Johnny Cash thing before Nine Inch Nails and Johnny Cash happened.
A Facebook friend posted this novelty a few days ago, and I decided to search for Lou Reed holiday music. There's a couple to go through, but I figured I should go with this one today.
Though I made a big stink yesterday about Bryan Adams ripping off "Heaven" for his Christmas song, I don't mind that this Lou Reed song and "Hello It's Me" sound similar. Probably because this Xmas song was first. Probably because I know Lou Reed seemed to fancy himself a wordsmith primarily, which sometimes makes the music almost seem secondary, more background than the main focus of attention.
Lou Reed gave us an all-too appropriate beginning to the week. Here's an all-too appropriate ending to it.
