December Limerick Madness

One of Madeleine Begun Kane's last limerick-off competitions for 2021 is underway, and I just submitted mine. The rest of you can submit a limerick with the word CRUDE or CREWED or ACCRUED at the end of any line (or alternatively, a limerick on the theme of crime) by December 11.

It just occurred to me that I've been neglecting one of my biggest writing credits ever: Salon.

In 2012, I answered a call to their first weekly Limerick challenge. I was among the first published and even got in a couple of more times before they stopped having the contest. I had a lot of fun writing those on deadline.

It was an overwhelmingly positive experience. It even led my online meet with Madeleine Begun Kane, whose limerick-offs I still participate in today.

I have a link on my website to the first limerick published there. It's listed at the bottom my writing credits page as an "oddity." Hey, how many people get their work featured on Salon even as a fluke? 

It's time to list each one of those limericks as a proper credit.

People I'm Grateful for in 2020: Madeleine Kane

 

"Mad" Kane's limerick-off kept going in spite of everything that happened this year. I entered every competition she held this year. It helped keep my mind sharp. 

I appreciate anyone who can keep any kind of outlet going for writers in the face of the world falling apart. A limerick every two weeks doesn't seem like much, but every little bit helped more than ever.
