This Summer: The 2026 Boston Poetry Marathon

The Boston Poetry Marathon has been gathering since 1998. The tradition carries on in 2026 this summer. Join us as we host a weekend of poetry by over a hundred poets.

We are returning to our home at the Community Church of Boston on 565 Boylston Street in Boston's Copley Square.

I am grateful to co-organizers Christina Liu and Xtina Strong for their help in keeping this event going.

We are in the process of updating our website and hope to send notices to our poets soon.

A GoFundMe page will be dropping by Monday.

Curtain Call

I had nothing appropriate I could have said when the Boston Poetry Marathon ended yesterday, so I saved this part when no one was around. Despite the choice of song, I did not do it alone. The Boston Poetry Marathon is a team effort with many people moving the moving parts. I couldn't have done it without Christina Liu and Christina Strong along with co-hosts Tom Daley and Timothy Gager (who provided vital audience assistance during Carol Weston's remote spot). And of course John Mulrooney brought it all home leading the tribute to Fanny Howe. And of course, there was everyone who attended. Many put their own marathon in attending both days! You made it all happen, and I hope we can all do it again.

Things I Messed Up in 2024: The Boston Poetry Marathon

I didn't act fast enough. 

I didn't want to take initiative. I should have. 

By the time someone else did, it was too late.

Instead of  a two-day event. It was one day online. 

I don't want to repeat my mistakes from this year. 

I promise to everyone who loves the Boston Poetry Marathon: We will meet in person again.

Unless, y'know, bird flu. Or another plague of any time.

But let's be somewhat optimistic for once.

Surreal

The Boston Poetry Marathon weekends in past have always been laced with surreal moments. You can attribute that to the summer heat. But even remotely, during a windy Saturday one-day only event, it can happen. I had a couple of out of body/out of time moments when I caught Jim Behrle's Zoom image as I was hosting or working behind the scenes the same event he let me participate in back in 2004 back when it was called the Boston Poetry Massacre. It's gone through many changes, and I am humbled that Jim chose to be part of this paired down event. 

My thanks to Jim and everyone who attended the event as a participant or an audience member (or both). Thanks to WBUR drawing some eyes to our event. Thanks especially to fellow organizers Xtina Strong and Christina Liu. Not to mention organizers emeritus Bridget Eileen and Suzanne Mercury for their support.

Next year, we will do everything we can to guarantee the event comes back live. We hope you'll join us then.

The schedule is as set as it can be, the Zoom links have been sent out. It's only a matter of time before the Boston Poetry Marathon' begiins this Saturday from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Visit the Boston Poetry Marathon's official website for the schedule and links. On Saturday, keep going back to the Facebook page to join the various livestreams. We'd love to have you join us.
