In Search of a Goat with a Vote

I would love to write something up about the Goat with a Vote group which was active in 2000. The above photo was taken from the debate at the first George W. Bush and Al Gore debate at UMass Boston on October 3, 2000, but I first encountered them during the Republican National Convention earlier that same year in July and August.

Happy Birthday Ian Thal

From the artist's Stone Soup Poetry feature on November 28, 2011 at the Out of The Blue in Cambridge Massachusetts. Arlecchino Am Ravenous is "a tale slapstick blasphemy and auto-canibalism" featuring Arlecchino, who before becoming a star of the commedia dell'arte and the inspiration for Harlequin, was a demonic figure of European folklore, even appearing as one of the "Evil-tails" in Dante's Inferno.

#TBT

James Van Looy, Ian Thal and Bill Barnum. This comes from James' personal collection. I believe this was taken back in 2004. It's hard to fathom looking at Bill from this time and thinking that this is his "young" face.

Happy Birthday Ian Thal

I promise to find a video of my own by next year. I'll get on it when I get my new laptop.

Remembering Lynne Sticklor (1970-2018)

Lynne and Ian Thal from Lynne's feature on January 11, 2011.

I first met Lynne during a barbecue/fundraising party for the Out of The Blue Art Gallery at their second-to-last location in Cambridge on Prospect Street. Lynne was one of the few present in the afternoon, so we talked for a good amount of the time. We exchanged numbers, and we later arranged a time to go to a Poetribe reading in Brockton.

My condolences to Ian Thal for losing his mother. You can read the obituary he wrote for her here.

Remembering

Six years ago today, Jack Powers passed away. Reading a lot of what was written on Facebook at that time (thanks to Facebook's "On This Day" thing), particularly this post by Ian Thal, who documented his times with Stone Soup Poetry's founder. Reading the posts (along with the comments by Yuri Hospodar and others I missed at the time) has helped to spark my current project, which involves documenting a lot of Stone Soup related things. I wanted to get this done for Stone Soup's forty-fifth anniversary this past May, but it didn't work out. Hopefully, I'll be able to share it with you starting on May 1, 2017.

My Work in Sounds of Wind

The anthology Sounds of Wind: New American Lyrics debuted as part of the Drini Poetik International Festival of Poetry in Prizren, Kosovo.  Albanian poet Lediana Stillo, who has been attending school in Massachusetts, asked me and other American poets to contribute to this volume, including Ian Thal, Dave Brinks, Maggie Cleveland, John Sibley Williams and several others.  I am honored to have of my poems appear here both in English and in Albanian as translated by Lediana.  As of now, there is no way to obtain this book, but hopefully that will change soon and I will be able to make announcements.
