The Curse of Lee Litif

Lee Litif and Bassam Habal, 2010

Part One

In last week's post, I talked about why I allowed Lee Litif to feature at Stone Soup for so many years. I left out one big reason.

You might think that Lee Litif featuring at Stone Soup, penis paraphernalia and all, holding a dildo gunslinger style, is a bad idea. However, there's an even worse idea. Refusing to feature him.

I've learned it's bad luck.

March 17: Gemma Cooper-Novak at Stone Soup

Not only is Gemma Cooper-Novak's first time visiting Stone Soup as a feature, but she will be introduced by returning Stone Soup Co-host Michael F. Gill. If you haven't been to Stone Soup yet in March, you should start this Monday, as this month has been a great build up to National Poetry Month in April.

July 8th: Stone Soup and Michael F. Gill (and friends!)

After the holiday weekend, please make sure to check out Stone Soup, as Michael F. Gill hosts another double feature night with poets Kurt Klopmeier and Betsy Gomez.  let's keep the long weekend feeling going a little longer, shall we?

June 17th: Michael F. Gill Fishes The Jamaica Pond for Stone Soup

This Monday, we have Michael F. Gill hositng a special feature starring at least five members of a poetry group I'm too busy to go to, even though I'm walking distance from where they regularly meet. I do, however, know many of the individual members, enough of them to say that this will be a feature worth going to. Check out Dorothy Derifeld, Carolyn Gregory, Susana Kittredge, Sandra Storey, and Gary Whited and possibly more as the Jamaica Pond Poets visit Stone Soup.

Available Tonight: Michael F. Gill/Bill Barnum..."Chapsides"???

Michael F. Gill's poem, "Bill Barnum Explains A Dream He Had" was accidentally left out of the Stone Soup Presents: Fresh Broth anthology.  We will be able to label it a happy accident, as we now introduce the poem as a chapbook/broadside print, which will be made available tonight and coincides  (almost) with Bill Barnum's 88th birthday.

This is likely the start of a new series of "chapsides" (name very much subject to change) coming out from Stone Soup Poetry, with at least two other releases from local poets coming out.  Pick up a copy tonight.  Only $3 per with proceeds benefiting Stone Soup and the poets.

May 13th: Michael F. Gill Leads The Charge of The Light Brigade

Happy Birthday to me. I'm exhausted. Thankfully, this is my "Monday off," where I am reminded that before your vacation, there is twice the amount of work to do in preparation. Tonight, the rest of you with a regular work week should head over to Stone Soup, as Michael F. Gill is hosting another packed month of performance with members of The Light Brigade. You need to see this.

March 11th: More Double Feature Goodness From Michael F. Gill and Stone Soup

Michael F. Gill is hosting Stone Soup again next Monday, and he brings us a pairing I wish I'd thought of.  First Chris Warner (above left), who features at Stone Soup for the first time, and Sue Savoy (above right?), who returns to Stone Soup for her third feature!  I even here there will even be a collaborative piece or two from the authors (ah, the insider knowledge Facebook brings).  Don't miss this please.  I'll be in the audience myself for this one, and I'll be doing a special pre-feature workshop.

I have to get some video of you up for a proper Birthday tribute.  Should be some in time for next year.

January 14th: Michael F. Gill Introduces Emily Duggan and Shira Rubenstein

I had my first 2013 Stone Soup experience this past Monday.  Next week, host Michael F. Gill will have his first 2013 Stone Soup experience, as he returns to introduce two new young poets.  If you haven't had your first 2013 Stone Soup experience yet, then I highly recommend penciling it in for next week.

October 1st: Stone Soup Welcomes Lowell!

This coming Monday, Michael F. Gill hosts a delegation from the series in Lowell, Massachusetts known as the Mill City Poetry series.  Current Mill City Ricky Orng will have his first Stone Soup feature, but not before the former Mill City host and Lowell resident (and multiple Stone Soup feature) Zeke Russell will start things off with an ode to the city that has spawned many voices contributing to the Boston Poetry scene in recent years.  Not to be missed.

February 6th: Stone Soup's New Direction

From this point on, local poet and organizer Michael F. Gill will be hosting Stone Soup one week out of the month, running his own special show with his own selected guests. Michael brings his own vision and his own featured poets. Everyone who is sensible is excited about this, and that means you should be too. He has already brought a lot to the table for Stone Soup before his first show, and more will hopefully be announced. Please join me in the audience section as we welcome Michael welcoming Laura Brown-Lavoie and Antonia Lassar to Stone Soup!
