Updating

It just occurred to me that I've been neglecting one of my biggest writing credits ever: Salon.

In 2012, I answered a call to their first weekly Limerick challenge. I was among the first published and even got in a couple of more times before they stopped having the contest. I had a lot of fun writing those on deadline.

It was an overwhelmingly positive experience. It even led my online meet with Madeleine Begun Kane, whose limerick-offs I still participate in today.

I have a link on my website to the first limerick published there. It's listed at the bottom my writing credits page as an "oddity." Hey, how many people get their work featured on Salon even as a fluke?

It's time to list each one of those limericks as a proper credit.

Advice for Writers I Can Relate to

I've been following Noah Bertlasky's work since I first saw it in The Comics Journal.  Feeling like a hack today even with a book and having only recently made money with poetry for the first time ever by writing a damn limerick, I can relate to his Salon.com article on how unsuccessful writers teach you more than bestsellers.

Unsent Limerick Submissions to Last Week's Salon Limerick Contest

Computer crash stopped me.  At least they have a home here.

Ten years since the last Iraq war?
We don't worry about that no more.
Between use of drones
and less deaths of our own
the Middle East news almost bores.

Arizona shows disdain for you
transgenders for using the loo.
Yet to stake out bidets
for T.G's sound ghey,
but hate's faulty logic's not new.

My Rejected Limerick Submissions to Salon.com, 3/15/13

I'll try to get these up earlier in the week, as I plan to send many more.

The Catholic Church smoke blew away
revealing same pope different day.
with more homilies
about families
and outrage if kids grow up gay.

I'll start posting these every Monday post-rejection.

The problem with limericks on Pope
is using same rhyme words with "Pope."
"Hope" yadda yadda
equals "Nope" nada
the Salon editors cannot cope.

Dick Cheney's self review is like
Sinatra singing "My Way" on mic.
He's his own rat pack you see
just singing with glee
before shooting Sammy in face.

My Rejected Limerick Submission to Salon

Check out the winners here.

North Korea now threatens with glee.
Kim's new BFF asks, was it me?
Rodman IM's his pal
saying, "Dude, what the hell?"
The response is "LOL OMG."

Another Limerick Published

Thanks if you're visiting the site from the Salon website.  The rest of you can check out last week's winning limerick here.

Reading it again, I should have had me pulling my hair instead of scratching it.  But as you'll see in the photo below, about one week into my new haircut...

I don't have a lot of hair to pull nowadays.

The Salon Limerick Contest is Back!

I thought the site's regular limerick contest I contributed to last year had faded unceremoniously, but here's the latest batch.  Even better, the new deadline is this Friday.

I'm In Salon.com Again!

Huh.  My limerick (in a week before deadline, but that's just because I misread the due date) was one of the winners  in the last Salon.com contest.  Thanks again, guys.  It's funny. This time when I won, I had to check the website to find out.  No one emailed me.  It's like when I used to freelance.  Maybe I've made the move to contributor.  Time to update my bio.
