Random Bits
Finally getting over the cold. It was worse over at my friend. He had his in-laws' dog stay over. Animal hair usually doesn't agitate my asthma that much, but something about that pooch comes close to killing me within minutes.
Glad to get back to city air. At least I'm accustomed to it.
I'll be performing at The Main Street Cafe (122 Main St., North Easton, MA) next Wednesday, September 29. There's an open mic at 7:00, and I go on at eight. Got some new work ready. It'd be nice to see some of you there.
If only Main Street Rag was out now, it'd officially be Chad on Main Street Month. A marketing opportunity lost, alas.
Any editors out there putting out a pre-election publication in the next month? I think I can offer y'all material. One of the Main Street Rag poems is close enough, but that was unintentional timing.
My upcoming comics collaboration with James Conant in The Comics Interpreter was very intentional, as Robert Young is preparing a very anti-Bush comics section (we usually only have essays on the form) in issue 3. If you don't like buying printed poetry, I hope you at least consider purchasing Robert Young's mag.
Based my own observations and those of Robert, my piece, along with Hans Rickheit's, will probably raise eyebrows the highest (and finally exile me from my family).
Speaking of political cartooning, while browsing in Million Year Picnic, I thumbed through the Bush Junta book that just came out this past Wednesday from Fantagraphics. I highly recommend it just from the pages I thumbed through. I'll probably buy it this week.
My best friend Mike (whose dog nearly sent me to the morgue) is being deployed for Iraq on the 29th. I fear for his welfare as well as the mental well-being of his wife and kid he's leaving behind. And I hate this administration more and more each day, especially since it looks like the "G.W. makes white people feel good" campaign is working.
This blog is going to get a lot less jovial in the coming months.
