Weekend Wrap-Up

Hell of a show on Saturday. I hadn't realized until then how much humor was added to this retelling of the Star Wars story until I saw the whole thing in one shot.

Bonus points to the guy in the wookie suit. For somone who only had to sing "Raarrrr!" over and over (basically having lines equal to Bob Goldwaith's in the Police Academy movies), he stole the show quite a few times.

My girlfriend was a cute alien, I must say. That whole alien cantina scene was the one everyone had the most fun with, complete with a dressed up band. I gave the word that I wanted to buy the homemade Hammerhead costume from one of the cast members.

Most unintentionally funny part: The scene where they rescued Princess Leia included members of the Rebel chorus in an adjacent cage. The stormtroopers rush in on Luke, Han, Chewie and Leia, and they run away...leaving the dozen rebels in the chorus behind in the cage.

I heard that one or two of the younger kids had a real problem with that. Why couldn't Luke have thrown them a key while singing "You Are My Destiny" to Princess Leia.

Keep in mind this is the first Star Wars, when Luke pines for Leia, not knowing it's his sister. This made that whole song a little creepy (but nowhere near as creepy as watching the first two Star Wars movies after you find out about Luke and Leia) . On top of that, the cast member playing Luke was a girl. A lot of the male characters were played by girls (one of them was a kick ass Han Solo, I must say). I'm not speaking against any of that. I'm just saying the ballad from Luke to his sister, as sung by another girl (with a pretty obvious build and ponytail) just sent out a hell of a lot of extra subtext you wouldn't expect at a family event. Cambridge really is an open minded town, God bless 'em.
