It was just turning 5:00 when I had to get going to meet Lynne. After five minutes of waiting, I conducted a little experiment. I started walking Centre Street to Brigham Circle, and it wasn't until I was ready to get to the end of South Huntington and turn onto Huntington that I finally saw--nearly a half-hour later-- a bus coming.
The opposite way.
I was expecting three more behind it--you know, all four 39's they allow for the weekend representing. Turns out my hopes were dashed. Only one was right behind. The final two buses just then came up behind me going my way.
I swear, if I didn't get in the bus and get stuck in traffic, I would have beaten it to the Brigham.
I don't know if the complete construction nightmare has given them incentive to stop trying to even look effective, but there you go. The 39 Bus has finally made the cross from near-to-total uselessness. And it's not even snowing yet.
Next time I have to take one (because of a foot having gangreen or something), I'll be tempted to go up to the next driver that actually makes it to the stop and say "WOOOW! I can't believe you made it! I'm so proud of yoooou!"
