Revisiting Simon

One of Spoonful's highlights is a set of tribute poems for Simon Schattner, who passed away last summer. I helped set up and host his memorial reading, making sure his music was playing in the background and his poems were read by printing a bunch I found on his then-up website. I ended up saving the music to my hard drive (it made burning CD's easier) but none of the poems. I was left with no poems to even attempt to reprint in Spoonful or elsewhere, and I had no way to get in touch with his family. It was a stroke of fate that Out of The Blue's Deb Priestly even found out about Simon's death and got in touch with his famliy in the first place. When I contacted Deb about contacting his famly again, she wasn't having success. Another stroke of fate happened a couple of weeks ago when I came across a LiveJournal belonging to the god daughter of Simon's brother, Andrew. One email later, and now I'm planning to write Andrew to discuss including Simon's poems in issue #2 and maybe elsewhere.

I have to thank Ariana, Andrew's god daughter, and so will take space here to plug her web zine, Brown Paper Magazine. Visit it here.
