The hotel I'm staying in never mentioned having an accessible computer with internet (even a printer), so I was surprised to find it in the same area where they'll serve the continental breakfast tomorrow morning. This is good, because I don't like checking mail at the VA, especially if it's one we'll be visiting.
I''ve started writing this while my co-worker Ed is likely trying to sleep. Poor guy. He's been traveling a lot more than me, interviewing for medical school all around the east coast. It's wearing him down. He's told me he doesn't sleep well in hotels. Constantly having to stay overnight to visit family and friends, I'm slightly more adaptable. I've slept on friend's floors and couches when I've had to, so I'm generally fine wherever I stay as long as the bed is fair. I admit, I made probably too many calls to friends and family once I got in my room. A little homesick, I guess. Also giddy from flying for the first time in over ten years.
I'll be off to bed soon myself. Hopefully, I'll get six hours, but the walls are thin, and the people next door love the TV loud. Ed has two noisy neighbors having sex with a work ethic, and as I started typing this I heard people bellowing, leading me to think there's a hazing incident happening in either the hotel's restaurant or the pool area. Whoever said business trips are boring?
Where I'm staying is practically next door to the VA we'll be teaching at, which is real convenient (reminds me of home, with an even better commute). I watched the news a bit, and it looks like there was a protest there earlier in the day from a peace group calling for an end to the war and additional help for veterans. I was sorry I missed it.
Explored the city a little. Ate at a place called Maders. Ed loves German cuisine and figured this state was the best place to a) try it again and b) introduce me to it. I think my pork quota has been filled until May. May, 2009, that is.
More tomorrow. Maybe. Good night.
