Discarded

I know it's customary for there to be transition in the city in the summertime. People moving out, people moving in. And yet, I feel I've been seeing a lot of discarded mattress and other furniture. More than I usually would.

This is the time of my lease renewal. I'll be staying at my home for another year, but not without my third rent increase in a row. My nerves are more frayed this time of year, so I'm obviously more sensitive than usual.

Still, now when I walk by these piles of past lives, I've stopped trying to write a City Haiku or any other poem.

Now I just stare and wonder: What happened here? What is happening around the city? Who's leaving now? Who's left?
