SAFE DISTANCE EDITION - Stone Soup Croutons, 10-21-20: Bless the Beastly Child

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions picked from Stone Soup's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here.

I also have a book out now collecting the best of my first year of poems. Click here to purchase it.

Stone Soup came back this Wednesday! I appreciate everyone who joined in and made me feel like I didn't miss a beat.

With the debates being what they are and the next two weeks being what they're going to be, of course I went political with my piece. This was fun to do, finishing most of the rough draft during the open mic. good to be back. Thanks for reading.

Bless the Beastly Child

Resplendent loser. A throne
of abolitionist skulls.

Spitball decrees stuck
in silent film.

Miles Davis dog whistles
past his free market ears.

No river. Just his piss pot
to bathe in.

Forced to not make waves.
Can't have TV.

Last Primetime gunslingers
smoked from their shelters.

Playhousewarmings  based
on bondage. Stay for more.

Declares opposite day in America.
Sets makeshift toga on fire.

Hashtags #AaronBurrShotFirst
on historian's pages.

Rinses in rainwater. Wipes
with roses between fights.

It's not sickness if all
feel the same.

Can take credit for lightning
if storm's already started.

The heart in his hand came
from himself. Not from

abused playmate addicted
to attention.

Apocalyptic brat kicks down
castles of sand.

Will work his way up
to harder structures.

Bad baby set loose. Runs away,
Breaks wind for Bethlehem.
