The strategy back in the eighties and nineties if you were a pop and/or R&B artist was this: You do a fast song with maybe some rap lyrics thrown in, then your next release was a slow love song. The love song would often do better and remain in rotation on mainstream radio stations decades for years to come. Everyone knows "Because I Love You" from Stevie B, but his first hit, "Love and Emotion," remains in the dustbin.
