Stone Soup Croutons, 4-26-23: It's Time

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions selected from Stone Soup Poetry's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here.

I also have a book collecting the best of my first year of poems. Click here to purchase it.

Wednesday night was the last night at the Assemblage Gallery. For now? Forever? I can't say. I'm glad Bil Lewis was the one to close out this era a second time.

I'm glad Bil has a video of the event.  I  haven't posted as much documentation of Stone Soup's time at the gallery. Either time, actually, since we were there from September 2019 to February 20202 the first time around. I'm still sitting on video and pictures that need to be posted. Maybe for May...

This week's poem is a bit of a cheat. (aren't' they all?) I didn't take many notes and am relying on the photography of the gallery to help me take this poem home. Glad I have these poems to store certain emotions and impressions. In this case, not even gentrified locations being safe from their own gentrification.

It's a new era, I guess. Thanks for reading.

Bil Below the Cityscape

The Assemblage Gallery has an amazing show this month. With the new lighting, the artwork above Bil Lewis as he performed really came to life after sundown. I was recording with my cell phone, so I had to take a photo with my antique iPad. Doesn't do it justice. If you really want to appreciate the work, you should visit the gallery this weekend.

Bill Lewis at Stone Soup Poetry, 4-26-23

Thanks to Bil Lewis for providing footage of his Stone Soup Feature. Ignore the asshole doing the introduction.

Waving Bye to the Assemblage

Once again, Stone Soup Poetry says goodbye for now to the Assemblage Gallery. We thank Bil Lewis for his farewell feature and wish him well with his new home in Idaho (and of course, we'll see him the next time Stone Soup is online, so it's the best of all worlds). Stay tuned to find out what happens in May when Stone Soup turns fifty two years old.

April 26: Tonight's Stone Soup is a Night of Sad and Goofy Goodbyes

Tonight is Stone Soup's last night at the Assemblage Gallery. It is also the final in-person feature for Bil Lewis before he moves to Idaho.

Bil will certainly still be around during our online gatherings, but we wanted to give him a proper send-off all the same.

Be at the gallery tonight for Bil's physical goodbye and the prelude to me scrambling to figure out where I'm going to find another in-person gathering place for Stone Soup's fifty-second anniversary celebration next month.

Stone Soup Croutons, 4-12-23: Summer Prelude

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions selected from Stone Soup Poetry's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here.

Karen Friedland featured on Wednesday. It was a unique experience. You don't think of setting much with Zoom, but due to an accident preventing my girlfriend and I from getting home, we at at The Real Deal at in Jamaica Plain before walking over to JP Licks.

A propper in-person open mic this Wednesday. Went off without a hitch. Had some new people in the mix. Took barebone notes during the round robins. Much of this poem was influenced by the warmer weather that took place for the rest of the week. I have much to do next. Hope you stay tuned. Thanks for reading.

Close Enough

Forgot to take a photo of everyone waving at last night's Stone Soup, so here's a picture of the ever-animated Bil Lewis appearing as if he might be waving. Close enough, right? Thanks to everyone who came out to Wednesday night's in-person gathering at the Assemblage Gallery. Stay tuned for more Stone Soup news.

Stone Soup Croutons, 3-22-23: Daylight Shavings

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions selected from Stone Soup Poetry's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here.

I also have a book collecting the best of my first year of poems. Click here to purchase it.

Stone Soup had another in-person open mic at the Assemblage Gallery on Wednesday. I took notes until I couldn't any more. I need to find a better method (or better yet, relearn the method I used when I started this eight years ago). I've become too dependent on recordings since the pandemic. I couldn't remember the second round robin, hence the abrupt ending to the poem.

So it's another word salad with a timely title to attempt to ground it. At least I got a  photo of animated Bil Lewis to share with the Fort Point Arts people who have been asking for shots to use for their advertising.

Thanks for reading.

Why Does Bil Look Like a Muppet When He Waves?

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Assemblage Gallery last night. It was great to see you and hear you read. Next week, Stone Soup returns online to feature Frances Donovan.

March 22: In-Person All Open Mic at the Assemblage Gallery

This Wednesday it will be just me and whatever open mic poets make it through the door.

I lost too much money with our last in-person show, so I'm only doing one in-person feature a month until things get better.

We'll see how many people come out tonight now that it's getting gradually warmer. Maybe you'll be there. Maybe not.

Thanks to everyone who came out last night's Stone Soup. Special thanks to feature Kaleigh O'Keefe. Next week, Stone Soup goes back online to feature Margaret R. Sáraco.
