Thirty Days of Stone Soup Stuff

 

I owe a debt to Bill Perrault for documenting Stone Soup Poetry those first couple of years I didn't own a digital camera (or steal my Mom's). Otherwise I would have no documentation of Jade Sylvan's first ever feature at Stone Soup Poetry.

Jade's first poetry collection, The Crossing, had just come out. If you think Jade took time to become a big deal in the poetry scene, you'd be wrong. The audience in attendance that night was the largest I've ever seen. So crowded that someone in the audience fainted shortly after Jade opened up with an acoustic cover of Bob Dylan's "Tangled Up in Blue."

The Cambridge Poetry Mashup is Happening This April

 

After being derailed by last year's pandemic, the Cambridge Poetry Mashup is happening this April for National Poetry Month.

I can't wait.

Toni Bee did a bang up job putting together this passion project made real. She has wanted an event like this for a long time, and to see it finally come to fruition is a testament to her vision, her drive, and the leadership everyone knew she had.

The event takes place on four different days in April and May while featuring such talents such as Boston Poet Laureate Porsha Olayiwola, Regie Gibson, Jade Sylvan, Lizzle4, Mary Buchinger Bodwell, and probably many, many more.

I'm proud to be hosting this event alongside Cole Rodriguez and Marlon Carey.

February 3: Krysten Hill Returns to Stone Soup

I don't have the site fully updated yet, as things aren't finalized, but I know enough already that we have the makings of a fantastic lineup for the entire month.  Please be there for the start of this lineup withKrysten Hill who last year was part of an amazing double feature hosted by Michael F. Gill.  If you weren't there for that, chances are you've seen her a a number or big events, like Jade Sylvan's Kissing Oscar Wilde opening party.  If not, just take my word (and the word of anyone else who's seen her) that you should make time to be in the seats this Monday.

Speaking of Jade Sylvan

Her website has been revamped.  Check it out.  She's even taken to writing news on her activity in the third person, giving her website that extra air of credibility we artists long for.

Also check out news of her upcoming role in the movie Ten, which I had a very small hand in funding via Kickstarter.

(not so) Old Memories,: The 2012 Massachusetts Poetry Festival

January Gil O'Neil and company have alreay sent out the call for proposals for the next festival, which will be held from May 3rd to May 5th next year.  Not only have I considered something myself, but I was reminded that in all the hectic activity of this past  April and May, I forgot to post the photos I took of the festival from this year.  Too random and disjointed for, say, a Facebook photo album, but perfect for this blog.  So here goes...

I was part of the event as a volunteer and a an event speaker.  I didn't give myself much time to photograph anything, and when I did, it was usually specific people I knew, like Michael Brown and Valerie Lawson of the Off The Coast journal.
