Where I Went On Vacation

My girlfriend photographs me from the 22nd floor (not even the top floor)..

We left Saturday morning and spent a few days in Panama City. The driver who took us to our condo from the airport called the area we were staying in "The Redneck Riviera." It used to be a regular place for MTV to film their Spring Break specials, but the driver indicated the town put a stop to that. Since the hurricane, I guess they've been trying to lure tourists back again.

Pier Park (a work in progress, with some places opening later in the Spring), is such a contrast compared to other locations off the same main street.

Imagine if South Boston's revamped South Bay Shopping Center was right off its infamous Methadone Mile road. You don't have to imagine that, of course, because that's exactly how it's set up. That's what looking down some streets like this reminded me of.

If you get a chance, you have to take the trolley at least once. It requires its own app, it's not really a trolley, and I've since rechristened it the Methadone Mile Mobile, but  but it gives you a sense of how the other half lives. But the windows are tinted, so it doesn't beat walking down to view the Vegas-style strip of dollar stores, head shops and other oddity outlets. These probably won't bring the family-style tourists back in droves, but their almost haiku-like marquee signs are too good to miss.

Knives!!!!

That's all for now. I'll post more shots on my Instagram page later.
