Thoughts About Poetry: 2/30

On Sunday night, before National Poetry Writing Month started, I wrote a poem I had in my head since Thursday.

I didn't write it to get ahead of the challenge. I wrote it so I could get it out of the way and write my first poem of the challenge.

I've been doing the NaPoWriMo thing for close to two decades. In the beginning, it's safe to say that I used that time to try and write the poems I'd wanted to write for a long time.

That was satisfying to a point. But today National Poetry Writing Month is just the moth I possibly gain a higher profile.

It's not the month I choose to be a poet. I choose a poet every day of my life. I write poetry every chance I get.

When I start to write my poems for the month, I have no idea what I'm going to write about. A majority of the pieces I don't end up liking enough to save. But every year this approach excites me more.

I have no idea what poem I'm going to write and post tomorrow. For me, that's the way it should be.
