Things I'm Proud of in 2019: Stone Soup Croutons

c

It's only natural that a) my highlights appeal directly to my ego and b) I start with Stone Soup Croutons, since that's what I post every Friday when Stone Soup is in session. For those who don't know, Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions picked up from poems overheard from Stone Soup's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later.

I wrote forty-seven Crouton poems this year, including one bonus poem from when Toni Bee hosted in my place while I featured in Lowell. It's the first year since 2017 that I've worked on these poems throughout the entire year (excluding holidays). No extended interruptions due to our venue closing. I also perfected my method during a time when it was getting harder and harder to work on these due a  change in schedule and my ever-increasing need for sleep. To put it bluntly, Wednesdays are tough, and I've become a morning person against my will.

Very rarely did I finish these poems in one sitting. I would like that to happen much more, but that would take radical changes in my work and life schedule. Whatever happens, this is one routine I hope I can keep up with and excel at in 2020.
