This came up on my Facebook memories a while back. It's a picture of my girlfriend's cell phone from a few years ago, taken after a get together in Dorchester during one of the worst summers (though in truth, most summers blend together in my mind and I can't now recollect the exact year).
Ninety-nine degrees at 9 o'clock in the evening. We said it like a joke, except it wasn't funny. It was real and a little terrifying.
I am so grateful that for whatever reason (the slowing down of society and industry, luck of the draw, whatever) that this summer has given us no abysmally hot nights. Especially this August, with its many cool, relaxing winds to lull us to sleep.
Here's hoping there will be at least one more tonight.
