Saw my work's on-duty optician to tighten up my frames, which had been loose for a long time.
When I put them back on, they fit perfectly, but now there was some kind of film on the lenses.
Wow, I thought, the guy must have put his thumbs on the lenses.
I wiped down the lenses, the film is still there.
Damn, I thought, the guy must have put his thumbs on the lenses and they were covered in chicken grease.
Eventually, I had to face facts. The film wasn't on my lens. It was part of my lens. The protective coating had been melted by the optician. No amount of cleaning could fix the problem. My frame is fine, but my lenses are now ruined.
Word to the wise, if your optician is working on your glasses, make sure they're not on their cell phone.
Now I need to scramble to get these lenses replaced. The prescription on my backup pair is too old to be fully comfortable.
I might get lucky and fully acclimate to the old lenses, but if I'm not posting as much over the next few days, now you know why.
