Something I Dropped the Ball On in 2021: Oddball Magazine

Wait, Chad, you might be saying. You helped keep Oddball Magazine going throughout the pandemic. It's still going.  How did you drop the ball? What did you do wrong?

Lots, actually. You just might not have noticed.

Last year when the pandemic broke, it gave me lot of time to plan out Oddball Magazine and add some great features.

That kind time was not available to me this year.

My mistake was being stubborn and trying to keep Oddball's 2020 pace going in 2021.

Oddball did not go smoothly. There were mistakes. There was even an occasional unprofessional outburst.

You never knew about those moments, but they happened all the same.

On top of mistakes, it became harder to put the same focus on assembling contributor posts. As a result, many of my choices seemed uninspired or rushed.

If none of you got that impression, then I'm grateful.

If some of you did, all I can do is apologize and try to do better.

My goal this year is to get someone else to pick out work. Anything to make my job easier.

Because I know I'm going to make the same mistake and try to keep Oddball Magazine going at its high pace in 2022.

I just believe in the work too much.
