My last time in France, I felt we stayed in commuterville, but my girlfriend chose a perfect location this time around.
We still had to take the subway, but at least we got to stay in a legitimate community (felt like Allston) instead of a sterile district. It made traveling from place to place much more pleasant.
If we stay in France again, I think I'll be ready to navigate myself around the city, second language or not.
