Warren Ellis has great ideas that end up being throwaway. I liked this spot in Astonishing X-Men #35 (art by Phil Jimenez and Frank D'Armata) where the X-Men are all called out for looking like supermodels with none of the truly weird looking mutants among them. Mutants that were ugly never lasted in the comics. Remember when Marrow and Maggot were on the team? Exactly. This is the perspective lacking in Joss Whedon's mutant cure storyline at the start of the book's run. Pity it was never explored in any depth.
