Started reading the first 2010 Birds of Prey collection written by Gail Simone. It's pages like this (done by artist Ed Benes) where I think Simone is practically confessing that there was never anything all that interesting about Hank Hall, aka Hawk of Hawk and Dove (which is probably why the Steve Ditko creation remains the most broken character in mainstream comics history--just look him up and prepare to be confused). Still, Simone is making me more interested in Hawk and Dove than anything I've read in recent years, or maybe ever.
