To anyone who might ask why NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani's ideas are getting so much resistance, look to decades of propaganda from media trying to convince you that said ideas are bad. It might even be presented by people who would otherwise identify as the left. I think most people reading his work would agree that Mark Gruenwald was liberal. Yet here he is setting up one of his biggest legacies from his run writing the Captain America comic: The Serpent Society, a group of mercenaries coming together to (gasp) unionize.
This was of course published by Marvel Comics, who, like most comic companies, are decisively anti-union. Written by Gruenwald with pencils by Paul Neary and inks by Dennis Janke. Life's full of irony like that. Think of how Image Comics staff finally created a union in reaction to working conditions decades after the founding members left the Marvel "plantation."
