I've been scanning my papers to better archive my life and save space. I rediscovered a family tree created by Roland Parenteau, a literally distant relative in Oregon at the time. According to his research and notes, "the Parenteau side has an important connection through friendship, i.e., a Parenteau was a close friend of Riel's, and is even mentioned in one prominent book about Riel's rebellions."
He goes on to say, "It seems that Riel had a loose circle of friends who helped him lead the Métis, one of whom was a man named Pierriche Parenteau (I think that's a nickname, but I'm not sure.) This man is mentioned...as being present at two important meetings. He was also one of the Métis leaders captured along with Riel and sentenced to prison for his role in the uprisings (Seven years, I believe)."
Below is a page from the collected Louis Riel historical biography by cartoonist Chester Brown, originally in Louis Riel #8, both published by Drawn and Quarterly.
