NaPoWriMo, Day Ten, Poem Seven

Music Lesson

To the aging Millennial, the budding
Zoomer, if you work with or live next
to a Gen Xer and you hear Limp Bizkit's
"Nookie" playing from their ear buds
or from behind their apartment door,
do not approach. This is all the warning
you will receive. This is not their go-to
music. Not even "Break Stuff," which
just reminds them of Woodstock '99
and the chaos that followed that night.
This angry Gen Xer has reached both
ends of their patience but still prefers
but still prefers the build-then-burn bars
of Sam Rivers, perfect for their night
walk, going past corner beauty salons,
somehow with clients long after closing
and thinking, Maybe, like a window
shopping serial kille. But no, what they
|wait for is the next clueless youth to
bark an order even they don't understand
or ask if the old man is "hangry," and
both blame and the follow-up hammer
falls squarely centered on your head.
