My Best Photo of 2023: From the Boston Poetry Marathon

Much gratitude to Bridget Eileen for taking this photo after I read. You could say this is where I peaked for the year.

Things I'm Proud of in 2023: Hosting the 2023 Boston Poetry Marathon.

I was asked to help organized this year's Boston Poetry Marathon. That means I helped host, recorded portions and helped keep everything clean and everyone fed. I also had to organized the Gofundme, which was enormously successful and helped pay for our space next year. There are few things I'm proud of this year. In fact, this may be this only thing.

Summer 2023 Highlights: Jason Wright

Jason Wright was an MVP this summer. He volunteered at the Boston Poetry Marathon and organized the Oddball Festival the following Sunday. I'm amazed he pulled it all off. I won't blame him if he doesn't want to do it again next year.

Summer 2023 Highlights: Boston Poetry Marathon

For the first time since I've been reading at this event, I participated in the event not only as a performer but also as an co-organizer.

I started and managed the Gofundme page to raise the funds to pay for the event. I was there both days doing media work and documenting the event.

I even took the podium as a host and probably made an ass of myself like I normally do. Doesn't matter. I did everything I could to help make this happen with the help of Christina Liu, Xtina Strong, Suzanne Mercury and departing organizer Bridget Eileen.

I'm gathering my thoughts as summer comes to an end so I can send out a much delayed final message to wrap up the year and prepare for next August.

Group Shot at the End of the Boston Poetry Marathon

Photo by April Penn. What the hell was I trying to express with that arm and face?

She took a lot of pictures of me. I like this one best because this is a rare side view where you can't tell I'm bald (as much).

Me at the Boston Poetry Marathon

Thanks so much to Gloria Monaghan for taking a good shot.

Still Time

The Boston Poetry Marathon is over. My fellow organizers and I are still elated from the energy on display this past weekend. Thank you to everyone who read and everyone who came to support the poets.

We are keeping up our Gofundme page just a little longer for anyone who still wants to give. We are very thankful to those who donated online or in person over the weekend.

Maniacal Laugh

I didn't take a selfie while at the podium, and my co-organizers didn't think to take a shot of me reading during my seven minute slot. So here's a dramatic reenactment taken after the fact. As usual, I'm channeling Raúl Juliá as General M. Bison in the 1994 Street Fighter movie. Thanks to Bridget Eileen for the picture.

Poetry Hangover

Still exhausted from this weekend at the Boston Poetry Marathon. Thanks to everyone who came to the Community of Boston this weekend. I have posted photos over at the BPM Instagram page and will be posting more there and elsewhere.

There's Still Time

The Boston Poetry Marathon Gofundme fundraiser has already excelled my wildest hopes. Can we keep it going until tomorrow to cover any more surprise costs? My gratitude to everyone who has contributed so far.

The Boston Poetry Marathon Is Happening This Weekend!

According to the schedule, I'll be reading for the Boston Poetry Marathon this Saturday at 3:00 PM. I'll also be helping the entire weekend. It's great to share my timeslot with Ruth Lepson, Suzanne mercury, Heather Hughes, Carol Weston and Jenny Grassi.

Please join all of us at the Community Church of Boston this weekend for the BPM on August 5 and 6. We have an amazing line up this year.

Thanks to Bridget Eileen, Christina Liu and Xtina Strong for bringing me on to the organizing team.

Here's the Boston Poetry Marathon Schedule

Our schedule has been (hopefully) finalized! You can also read it via the link here. Hope you can make it to the Community Church of Boston this weekend.

We Did It! Got More?

The Boston Poetry Marathon Gofundme completed its initial goal of $1,000. If anyone is willing to give more to help cover a surprise cost or two that has come up, that would be appreciated. We ask for a $10 donation at the door the weekend of the event at the Community Church of Boston, but if you would rather save loose bills for waitstaff and bartenders in the surrounding area, you can send us your donation early. Our gratitude to everyone who has given so far. We'll see you on Saturday at 11:00 AM!

Just Ten More Dollars

The Boston Poetry Marathon Gofundme is just ten dollars short of it's goal! Who will donate that last bit? Anything extra, of course, will go to cover one or two unexpected costs that have come up and ensure we have a war chest for 2024. Please give, and thank you if you already have given.
