Stone Soup Croutons, 2-8-18, In It Now

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions butchered picked up from poems overheard from Stone Soup's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here. To paraphrase Lorne Michaels, this poem doesn't go up because it's ready, it goes up because it's Friday morning.

Skoot totally killed it last night to an eager audience. A perfect night to finally get the mic stand. I'm grateful for the turn outs these past few weeks, new and old faces joining us. When I get used to this new regiment, hopefully the poem will come easier, I'm sure. As it stands, I had to ask one of the poets to send me the poem they just read. Too busy dealing with computer equipment not working (thanks, Alfred). Here's another hot mess of a piece.

Thanksgiving Poem You Likely Missed

Last week Tom Daley shared this Thanksgiving poem by Alfred A. Zuñiga, which he made into the jpeg below in the hopes that it would go viral. Unfortunately, I was too busy to share it then. It's a great poem, but I wasn't able to share it then. I'm posting it now in the hopes that people will find it and past it around again next year (just don't make a leftovers joke).

Stone Soup Croutons, 8-17-15, Orbits

Note: This blog was accidentally and irrevocably deleted, which forced me to retype the poem from my rough notes. If you're going back to this and it reads like a different poem, you are likely right.

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions captured from poems overheard from Stone Soup's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title the next morning.

Last night was crazy with Alfred Zuñiga's feature. There was a show scheduled to happen at the Out of The Blue shortly after we finished. When that happens, it usually means a lot of running around in the background while Stone Soup is going on. It got crazy enough that even with the short list of open mic readers, I wasn't able to listen to everyone.

Luckily, there was newcomer Joanna 'jojo' Lazar, whose poem gave me enough to anchor my own poem down. partly because of her piece and partly because of something that happened during her reading (you can read below and probably guess what that was).

Apologies for mixing "burlesque" and "stripper" in the draft I read last night as if they were the same thing.

Orbits

The night is a reverse moonwalk
Big leaps, small steps.

The hot girl action show
always two infinite steps away,
all action equaling inaction.
