People I Want to See Tonight at Stone Soup
Deta Galloway
I know her name came up last week. Problem is, I didn't get the phone-in information to her. I am not making the same mistake twice.
Mignon Ariel King
I want her to feature again, but she's having some of the same Zoom-related issues as well. We'll try by video for tonight's Stone Soup and then by phone if that fails.
Erik Tate
I'm as shocked as Erik looks in this picture that we haven't seem Erik or his wife Krystal for a few sessions. Where ya been, man?!?

SAFE DISTANCE EDITION: Stone Soup Croutons, 7-15-20: Pandemic Outcast Diary
Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions picked from Stone Soup's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here. To paraphrase Lorne Michaels, this poem doesn't go up because it's ready, it goes up because it's Friday morning.
It was great to have Erik Tate feature on Wednesday. We have Alexis Ivy next Wednesday, and I should be able to announce more features this weekend. Thanks to Erik for being one of the first to volunteer for our online feature series.
Erik has numerous unpublished collections, so he gave us a lot to absorb with his reading. I hope this week's piece did him some justice. Thanks for reading.
Pandemic Outcast Diary
We remember when we asked permission
to protest in our own streets, raised hats
to statues, as if hoping to be pulled up.

July 15: Stone Soup Says Welcome Home Erik Tate
Erik Tate has had a long history with Stone Soup Poetry. He's been in New Jersey with his wife for a while, so it's hard for him to get down to our neck of the woods in Boston. With the help of our new online format, we can have him feature next Wednesday on July 15. He's been tearing up the open mic lately, so it will be fun to see what he does with a full set.
Join me on July 15 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM ET by clicking this link.

SAFE DISTANCE EDITION: Stone Soup Croutons, 6-10-20: Before Bed
Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions picked from Stone Soup's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here. To paraphrase Lorne Michaels, this poem doesn't go up because it's ready, it goes up because it's Friday morning.
This week's open mic was part of a transition phase for Stone Soup. In two weeks, we'll be introducing Jamilla VanDyke-Bailey as the first of our Zoom features, with hopefully many more following.
For everything going on in the world, his week was a lot more laid back. I was thankful this week and was able to get my lines down during the open mic for the first time in months. Didn't have to play back the entire open mic. Means this week's offering is more spontaneous. Maybe not better, but definitely more spontaneous and more fun. Thanks for reading.
Before Bed
Hang your troubles on the line
so they'll be dry to wear tomorrow.
Bad feelings beget proof all is bad
till even clothes smell of doomsday.
