A song of chalk was sung on Wednesday. Thanks to Gale Batchelder, Susan Berger-Jones and Judson Evans for a wonderful reading of their new book Chalk Song (get it here). A wonderful night of old and returning friends. So glad this book is complete.

 

This is my crack at a crouton poem after hearing the feature again and watching some footage of Werner Herzog 's Cave of Forgotten Dreams documentary, which was the main inspiration behind Chalk Song. Tried to keep it short. Silly title with an in-joke for those old enough to get it. Thanks for reading.

February 9: Sing a Song of Chalk at Stone Soup

Since Gale Batchelder and Judson Evans' feature back in 2016, I've been hearing about Chalk Song, their major poetic opus in progress alongside fellow collaborator Susan Berger-Jones. It was exciting news to hear that Lilly Poetry Review Press finally put out the collection late last year. After a series of successful readings, Gale, Judson and Susan finally make their way to Stone Soup Poetry on February 9 via Zoom. This will be an incredible night you must not miss.

Stone Soup Croutons, 4-18-16, Thrift

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions picked up from poems overheard from Stone Soup's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title either then or later. It's likely some of the poets I thank at the end won't even be able to figure out which lines were inspired by their work. To paraphrase Lorne Michaels, the poem doesn't go up because it's good; it goes up because it's Tuesday morning. Today, though, life got in the way and it's up in the afternoon instead.

 Gale Batchelder and Judson Evans had an amazing feature yesterday. It came with such a rich open mic, I was able to incorporate not only the open mic but also one or two of the poets' introductions (thanks Gale and Daniel Moore). That doesn't mean the poem makes much sense, though I was able to incorporate the theme of seasons which at least three different poets used. I'll let you be the judge.
