Stone Soup Croutons, 12-18-19, Unlikely Hero

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions picked up from poems overheard from Stone Soup's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here. To paraphrase Lorne Michaels, this poem doesn't go up because it's ready, it goes up because it's Friday morning.

This past Wednesday, Stone Soup had it's last gathering of 2019 with feature Suzanne O'Toole.
That means this is the last Crouton poem of the year. By all means, I should have wrapped this up easy, stung a few haiku together and called it a day.

Instead, I'm writing something like a sci-fi romp. Why not? That will be easy to finish.

To be fair, Suzanne helped with her great setlist. Then there was April March Penn who had another great line in her first open mic poem this week. So good, I indirectly stole it a little.

Suzanne and April both deserve credit for helping me start the piece below, but they should shoulder none of the blame.

Maybe the unlikely hero below can join up with Jerusalem Jim from my poem a couple of weeks back.  At this rate, I'll have a cinematic universe ready to go by 2030. I'll get cracking on this next year.

See you for Stone Soup's return on January 8 with A.J. Odasso. Thanks for reading.

Thank You

I usually reserve my thanks for Friday, but this is too important.

Thanks to everyone who attended Stone Soup during the Fort Point Holiday Stroll. Thanks to Kelly Pedersen for the opportunity and to April March Penn especially for putting in double duty as poet and tarot reader.

Stone Soup Croutons, 10-9-19, Spell

Stone Soup Croutons is a weekly poem I write using lines and impressions picked up from poems overheard from Stone Soup's open mic readers and features. I figure out a title (and sometimes the rest of the poem) later. You can read the other ones I've done since 2015 here. To paraphrase Lorne Michaels, this poem doesn't go up because it's ready, it goes up because it's Friday morning.

April March Penn came by on Wednesday to feature at our new venue and offer Tarot readings. She was nice enough to give me a reading as well, which I appreciated. I incorporated some of that time in the poem below.

Due to my strong personal convictions, I wish to stress that this poem in no way implies an understanding of the occult. I just like the imagery.

Thanks for reading.

Awesome News

Thanks to Zachary Bos and Pen and Anvil Press, we will be presenting boadsides of April Penn's poem "Original Love" during her feature tonight.

We are hoping this is going to be a regular thing but don't want to jump to conclusions yet.

I am so grateful for changes happening at Stone Soup Poetry. Announcements will be made soon.
