An Editor’s Dialogue
My goal was
to write poems
comprised of sentences
from those long essays
that magazines told me to edit,
which I never did.
Now I want to take these poems,
and similar poems from other writers
and put them in a magazine,
two, even three on a page.
So simple, devoid
of any wordplay,
they read like flash cards
(especially if you leave out metaphors,
like that one above about flash cards).
So quickly read and thumbed through
that two minutes from now,
I couldn’t tell you their titles
or who wrote them.
