The Calm During the Storm - for Chad Parentau Julie Marie Hoey, 2020, you calm may be cloaked/in anxiety/grief/fear/outrage/this silent enemy rages through/porders/boats/and trains/shouting through/the airwaves/and touching until we fear/not a thing will remain/on the shelves?/in our hearts?/of the truth?/are we sane?//this storm rides on/platitudes/prejudice/ignorance/misinformation/and blame//some mourn/for the vulnerable/as though they've already passed/send accusatory looks to the glove-less/or laugh at those with masks//some judge/those with carts overflowing/and watcing too much news/or those watching none at all/many/are walking in other's shoe//do not forget/this world has survived worse/with less/science/wisdom/and heart/music/dance/and art/we must/let go/accept the unknown/after all/it has always been with us/the universe/she is in control//focus on/the splendor of the stars/conversations through creativity/the magic of the Milky Way/and bulbs/about to bloom/reach out/to those you love/and those you do not know/a smile touches many/kindness warms/lights and grows/focus on/the delicateness and deliciousness/of all that is in view//your calm need not be cloaked/it is all around/and most certainly/in you
