he Coaches Award for my Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) was basically a participation trophy. But it was distinguished participation in the eyes of my coach Rick, who praised me when he introduced me for the trophy in 1989. "The guy puts his heart in soul in every game." My ankles were very weak when I was young. I would often twist them during a game. Put that on top of my other physical setbacks, and it's a wonder I ever played at all.
